The Lumber Yard, an LGBTQIA+ bar and event space located in Seattle's White Center, is thriving and stronger than ever.
Having originally opened in January of 2018, it was the target of arson and closed July 5, 2021. Since the incident, the Lumber Yard has reopened in a new space right across the street and is a beacon of hope, inclusion, and community in White Center for many Queer people.
Staffed by wonderful people of all gender expressions, sexual orientations, and backgrounds, the Lumber Yard has an industrial vibe while still staying true to its roots.
Last Friday evening's festivities began with a viewing party for the finale of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars season 8, hosted by the stunning diva and Seattle drag staple Cookie Couture, wearing one of her signature blonde wigs in a gorgeous blue gown, along with the extremely talented DJ Redline. Patrons celebrated the win of Canada's very own Jimbo as the newest addition to the hall of champions. Cookie Couture's hot takes on this season made the viewing experience all the more enjoyable.
Afterward, DJ Redline kicked off the monthly underwear night. This event, with no cover charge, is a safe and accepting place for everyone to show off and appreciate their forms. Patrons celebrated body positivity and inclusivity, dancing the night away to stellar tracks. The event also featured a free clothing check and sexy go-go dancers. Three-dollar Sinfire shots helped raise money for Lambda Legal.
In an increasingly hostile political climate for the LGBTQIA+ community, it is vital more now than ever to provide safe spaces for Queer people to be their authentic selves, free from judgment and hostility. Lumber Yard more than delivers.
