Victor Janusz Band launches new CD Café Pluvieux

VJ Trio to appear in MK Scott's 'Unite Live' Holiday Show at The Triple Door Dec. 3

by Paul Torres - SGN A&E Writer

VJ TRIO
MK SCOTT'S
'UNITE LIVE' HOLIDAY SHOW
THE TRIPLE DOOR
December 3 at 7:30pm

The opening chimes and swell of music of Victor Janusz Band's latest release, Café Pluvieux, immediately draws you in as he croons, 'You can't start the show without me&' on 'Don't' Start the Show Without Me!'. It's a cheeky and fun set-up for a lounge-like, spend-your-rainy-Sunday-with-a-loved-one album. This is a follow up to his wonderful 2015 Living in a Blue State. Café Pluvieux is a Valentine to café life.

Café Pluvieux is a joyful mix of new and classic tunes. The Sinatra-like take on U2's classic 'One' from their 1991 magnum opus Achtung Baby album is sweet and soulful. The title track, 'Café Pluvieux', featuring singer Arwen Dewey, puts you in that café caffeine-buzz state of mind, perfectly Seattle or maybe London or Paris where you can get lost in a book as the day dims into evening where 'there's no rendezvous'. The rendition of 'Over the Rainbow' is exquisite and emotes layers of beautiful sentiment. The upbeat 'Prince of Piece of Mind' adds some sassy groove (and a searing guitar lick) to the collection. They cover Cole Porter's classic 'Night & Day' with perfect adoration and a French twist. 'Soldier On' (sung by Dewey) is a powerful and poetic song reminiscent of smoky room torch songs with glasses of bourbon clinking. Other tunes like 'I Saw the Light' and the darkly romantic 'Crescent Noon' show truly show off the group's breathtaking musical talent. And in true Victor style, the album ends with a kiss, 'Le Baiser (French Kiss)' to be precise. It's a luscious duet to end a perfect date at this elegiac café that may only exist in our minds.

There's a lot of head bopping and finger snapping action going on here. Janusz works with an abundance of talent that includes Medearis 'MD' Dixson (alto and tenor sax), Spencer Hoveskeland (bass and guitar), Robertson Witmer (accordion), Eric Wilcox (drums), Jacques Willis (vibes and drums), Steve White (percussion), and Pete Remine (steel drum). Of course, Janusz is the consummate artist with his vocals and a piano master that is especially showcased on 'Sou Le Ciel De Paris'.

Janusz VJ Trio will be playing The Triple Door (216 Union St.) on December 3 at 7:30pm as the house band for MK Scott's 'Unite Live' Holiday Show. Tickets: $25 in advance and $35 at the door. It's bound to be an exciting set featuring songs from this new CD. Café Pluvieux is perfect because it's a bunch of talented friends having fun and all of this comes shining through with every sax wail, drum beat, and piano riff. https://www.facebook.com/VJBand/
