Welcome back Kathleen Mullen as festival director for 23rd TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival

We are thrilled to welcome Kathleen Mullen back this season as the Festival Director for the 23rd TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival, which runs October 11-21, 2018. Mullen previously served as Festival Director for the 2014 and 2015 festivals. The position was previously held by Danny Tayara, who left Three Dollar Bill Cinema at the end of May.

Kathleen Mullen has contributed to the planning, film programming, and execution of film festivals and art organizations nationally and internationally for over twenty years. She has worked with the DOXA Documentary Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, Hot Docs, the Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival, the Provincetown International Film Festival, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Mullen holds a Master of Fine Arts in film production from York University. She has written and directed a number of short films, you wash my skin with sunshine and Sleep Lines, and an award-winning mid-length documentary, Breathtaking. She is a dual citizen of the US and Canada and makes her life between the two countries.

'I am ecstatic to welcome Kathleen back for the season and partner with her as we put together the 23rd installment of TWIST,' said Ben McCarthy, Three Dollar Bill Cinema Executive Director. 'Kathleen's intimate understanding of our audience, paired with her expertise in film festival programming, will allow us to continue curating high-quality films for the festival that our community has come to expect.'

'I am very excited to be back as Festival Director of Twist and in Seattle, a community I feel at home in,' said Mullen. 'I look forward to finding some of the best in LGBTQ2+ cinema for this year's festival and having some fun doing it!'

Now in its 23rd year, Three Dollar Bill Cinema strengthens, connects, and reflects diverse communities through queer film and media. This is achieved through access to films by, for, and about LGBTQ people and their families, and a forum for LGBTQ filmmakers to share and discuss their work with audiences. Three Dollar Bill Cinema's core programs include TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival, Translations: Seattle Transgender Film Festival, and Reel Queer Youth.

Founded in 1996 as the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival has grown into the largest event of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. TWIST has gained industry and audience recognition for showcasing high-quality, relevant queer films, from those of emerging filmmakers to major motion picture premieres. An important venue in the Seattle film scene, TWIST provides unique opportunities for visiting and local filmmakers to engage with over 10,000 attendees. The 23rd TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival will take place October 11-21, 2018, in Seattle.
