Two Elton John tribute albums featuring pop and country stars are out now

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

It's the battle of the Elton John tribute albums, or Revamp vs. Restoration. Both albums, which salute the LGBT music icon, who will celebrate 50 years as a recording artist in the months ahead, were released on the same day, April 6. The Revamp album features A-list entertainers, from Lady GaGa covering 'Your Song' to Ed Sheeran's surprisingly good 'Candle in the Wind' to Miley Cyrus' impressive rendition of 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me,' not to mention Sir Elton himself collaborating with Pink and Logic on 'Bennie and the Jets.' The Restoration project includes some of country's biggest names like Kacey Musgraves delivering a sassy version of 'Roy Rogers,' Dierks Bentley muscling his way through a vocal-perfect redo of 'Sad Songs (Say So Much)' and Lee Ann Womack giving her bluesy-infused take on 'Honky Tonk,' plus a standout performance by Little Big Town on 'Rocket Man.' Just so you know, each album carries the subtitle Reimagining the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin with John overseeing Revamp and Taupin helming Restoration. Both are in stores now.

Veteran electronic artist Jean-Michel Jarre had intended to interview with Seattle Gay News this week, but was running late on the day of the interview and thus we just had time to exchange greetings. 'It's my first time,' he replied excitedly to being asked when he last performed in Seattle. He's also looking forward to appearing at Coachella, which is also part of his anticipated North American tour. Tickets to see Jarre at the Paramount Theatre on April 18 are on sale now at www.stgpresents.org.

Here are some new shows to put on your radar: a second John Fogerty performance has been added at Chateau Ste. Michele on July 19, as the first concert on July 20 is already sold out. Detroit bad boy Kid Rock is towing his 'Red Blooded Rock n' Roll Redneck Extravaganza Tour' to the Emerald City on August 18, playing White River Amphitheatre with special guest Wheeler Walker Jr.. Australian bubblegum act 5 Seconds of Summer have scheduled a fall date in Seattle on their upcoming tour, set to appear at the Paramount Theatre on October 5. And, the Goo Goo Dolls are commemorating the 20th anniversary of the band's breakthrough album Dizzy Up the Girl with a coast-to-coast tour that brings them to the Paramount Theatre on November 3.

While the complete lineup for the Upstream Music Fest + Summit is still being finalized, already confirmed for the event, which is mostly taking place in the historic Pioneer Square district, are Miguel, Cut Copy, Little Dragon, The Flaming Lips and Zola Jesus. Over 200 acts will convene in Seattle this summer, June 1 to 3 be exact, for the second installment of the event, which debuted in 2017. For more information, go to www.upstreammusicfest.com.

Finally, look for an upcoming interview with '80s pop star Kim Wilde, easily known for her universal hit 'Kids in America.' The British performer has a new album out called Here Come the Aliens. Her interview will be featured here in The Music Lounge.
