Trump campaign reshuffle just makes it worse

by Mike Andrew - SGN Staff Writer

Donald Trump's latest campaign reshuffle - made in response to manager Paul Manafort's increasingly problematic association with Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs - may only make matters worse for the Republican nominee.

Replacing Manafort as Trump's campaign manager will be Kellyanne Conway, a veteran political operative who previously backed Ted Cruz. Conway has also worked for Jack Kemp, Dan Quayle, Newt Gingrich, Fred Thompson, and Mike Pence.

In a 2011 speech at the Conservative Women's Network, Conway urged women to 'embrace femininity, not feminism.' In 2013 she advised a group of House Republicans to stop talking about rape altogether in the wake of Missouri senatorial candidate Todd Akin's gaffe about 'legitimate rape.'

Also coming aboard as campaign CEO will be former Breitbart chairman Stephen Bannon, an old friend of Trump's from the candidate's 2008 'birther' days.

According to former Breitbart reporter Ben Shapiro, Bannon was responsible for turning the Breitbart website into an 'alt-right go-to website, with [homocon Milo] Yiannopoulos pushing white ethno-nationalism as a legitimate response to political correctness, and the comment section turning into a cesspool for white supremacist meme-makers.'

Shapiro has also labeled Bannon 'a legitimately sinister figure' who has cheated Breitbart investor and Ted Cruz supporter Robert Mercer out of millions of dollars.

Mercer was persuaded to invest in Bannon's website while Bannon was planning to embark on a round of Cruz-bashing to benefit Trump, Shapiro suggests. Curiously enough, Mercer's spokesperson at the time was Trump's new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway.

Veteran Republican media hack and alleged serial sexual harasser Roger Ailes has also come aboard the Trump campaign as an unofficial advisor.

Ailes, who worked for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, both Bushes, and Rudy Giuliani, was forced out of his job running Fox News in the midst of multiple accusations of sexual harassment by Fox's female staffers.

While working for George H. W. Bush, he reportedly advised the president not to wear a short-sleeve shirt because he'd 'look like a fucking faggot.'

It's a word Ailes is fond of, according to people who know him.

According to CNN Money, three people came to them with the same story about a discussion Ailes had with Politico CEO Fred Ryan.

Ailes told Ryan that he wanted fair coverage from Politico that would mention Fox News's successes, not just its controversies. He also wanted Politico to stop taking talking points from 'that faggot David Brock,' the founder of media watchdog Media Matters.

'Why am I not surprised?' Brock told CNN Money when called for comment.

The changes to Trump's campaign team were said to have been made on the advice of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who told the candidate that his previous team was stifling his personality.

'Trump's campaign has now entered the hospice phase,' conservative pundit and Trump critic Charlie Sykes tweeted. 'He knows it's dying and he wants to surround himself with his loved ones.'
