Trump advisor apologizes for anti-Semitic remark

by Mike Andrew - SGN Staff Writer

Donald Trump's foreign policy advisor - and once a possible VP pick - General Michael Flynn apologized July 25 after retweeting an anti-Semitic remark.

On July 24 Flynn was attempting to reply to Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook, who suggested to CNN anchor Jake Tapper that an embarrassing leak of DNC emails was engineered by Russian agents.

'The corrupt Democratic machine will do and say anything to get #NeverHillary into power. This is a new low,' Flynn tweeted in response.

He also shared a link to a tweet from another user who wrote '>Cnn implicated. 'The USSR is to blame!' ... Not anymore, Jews. Not anymore.'

Within hours of retweeting the remark, Flynn deleted it and apologized, saying it was 'a mistake' and that he only meant to share the CNN video of Mook's interview.

According to Trump, Flynn is his primary military and foreign policy advisor. He was given a prime-time speaking slot at the Republican National Convention, where he spoke on US global leadership.

According to the Vox website, Flynn had been vetted for the Republican vice presidential spot before Trump chose Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

Flynn, who rose to the position of director of the Defense Intelligence Agency under the Obama administration, has described himself as a 'pro-life Democrat' who now supports Trump because the Democratic Party has gone 'too socialist.'

In 2014 Flynn abruptly resigned from his post along with his number two, civilian David Shedd, after clashing with the Obama administration over policy.

After retiring from the military, Flynn began appearing as a talking head on an English-language pro-government Russian news outlet, RT. According to Vox, Flynn has 'an odd affection for Russia and its authoritarian government.'

US diplomatic officials were said to be 'startled' when Flynn appeared at a 2015 Moscow gala in honor of RT and was seated only two chairs away from Vladimir Putin.

In February 2016, Flynn began serving as an adviser to Trump although his political views don't really mesh with Trump's.

In a July 10 ABC interview, for example, Flynn said, 'Women have to able to choose.' On marriage equality, he offered the following opinion: 'What people do in their private lives, these are not big issues that our country's dealing with.'

After an outcry from Republican Party regulars, Flynn withdrew the remarks.
