Tulip Festival seeks poster artists

Artists interested in becoming the official poster artist for the 2018 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival have until August 8 to submit their applications, according to Festival Executive Director Cindy Verge.

To participate in the selection process, artists need to send the Festival a letter of interest plus two or three small samples of their work by 4 p.m. Monday, August 8 (color photocopies are acceptable). A website address and brief resume are also suggested. From these submissions, the Selection Committee will identify up to five semi-finalists in the first round of judging.

The poster artist receives a $2,000 commission while the Festival retains the original artwork and the permanent reproduction rights. In addition to appearing on the poster, the work is utilized on more than 200,000 copies of the Festival brochure, distributed from Tacoma to Vancouver, B.C., as well as on magnets, postcards, the Festival's website, and other ancillary products. The artist is expected to be available for the Unveiling Celebration in November, 2017, and to sign copies of the poster locally on weekends in April, 2018.

The Festival has established an international reputation for its posters, having received the Gold Award from the International Festival and Events Association each of the past four years. Posters from the past several years can be seen at www.tulipfestival.org/artists.

Submit applications to the Festival at P.O. Box 1784, Mount Vernon, WA 98273, or in person during business hours at 311 W. Kincaid in Mount Vernon. For more information, contact Verge at (360) 428-5959 or cindy@tulipfestival.org.
