Florence + the Machine, Chris Cornell plot Seattle shows

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

I can't honestly remember Florence + the Machine's last performance in, or around, Seattle. But I do recall a show at the White River Amphitheatre in July 2012, in support of the band's sophomore album Ceremonials. The British act, led by eclectic frontwoman Florence Welch, just released its third studio effort, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful a week ago, already topping the UK charts and producing two hit singles, 'What Kind of Man' and 'Ship to Wreck.' And with a new album comes another tour that includes a stop at Key Arena on October 27, as well as concerts in Austin, Phoenix, Boston, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Portland. Tickets, priced between $26.50 and $66.50, are now on sale through livenation.com.

Chris Cornell has also announced a performance date for the Emerald City, his former hometown. The Soundgarden member and solo singer-songwriter will appear September 29 at Benaroya Hall, as part of an acoustic tour to boost his latest recording, Higher Truth. Cornell sold out the symphony hall last October, and prior to that he performed with Soundgarden on the CenturyLink Field parking lot when the Seattle Seahawks opened their 2014-15 season against the Green Bay Packers. There are currently no tickets for this concert, but log onto seattlesymphony.org between now and September 29 for any last-minute possibilities; you're also welcome to go in-person to the box office on the day of show.

Wait, there's more. Grammy winner Lucinda Williams is headed to Bellingham, set to appear July 22 at Mt. Baker Theatre to promote her 11th studio album, Down Where the Spirits Meets the Bone. Meanwhile, another Grammy winner, Steve Earle & The Dukes, are slated to perform August 29 at The Neptune here in Seattle. Tickets for both concerts are available at Tickets.com. And The Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas is headlining a gig with The Voidz on September 16 at The Showbox Market; tickets are available at axs.com.

Janet Jackson is expected to drop a new album, her first in seven years, this fall with the leadoff single rumored to be 'No SL333P,' or 'Plush.' Whatever it is, let's hope it's something better than the string of duds she's delivered for nearly a decade. A world tour is also in the works. I love a good comeback, so I'm all in for Ms. Jackson.

Finally, don't forget I'm featuring an interview with Rob Thomas here in The Music Lounge on June 22. He'll play the Paramount Theatre on June 29; go to livenation.com for concert details.
