BEST OF MUSIC 2014: HOTTEST ARTISTS OF THE YEAR

by Albert Rodriguez and Jessica Price - SGN A&E Writers

Some artists had an amazing year in 2014, but here are five musical entertainers who bested everybody. In ranking order, this is who we picked for the Hottest Artists of the past twelve months.

1. MILEY CYRUS
From twerking to tongue-wagging to dating American political royalty, everything came up roses for Miley Cyrus in 2014. Her sold out tour included dates across North America and throughout Australia, while her late 2013 album Bangerz garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album, deservedly. She won't get any awards for the most well-behaved, but when it comes to crushing her competition like a wrecking ball, it's Cyrus ftw! -A. Rodriguez

2. TAYLOR SWIFT
Swift haters, be gone. The girl successfully transitioned from country princess to pop superstar with the release of 1989, her fifth studio album that produced the mega hit and Record of the Year nominee, 'Shake It Off.' And, it looks to be an ever bigger and busier 2015 with a world tour that lands at Seattle's CenturyLink Field next summer - yep, she's playing football stadiums now! -A. Rodriguez

3. PHARRELL WILLIAMS
He began 2014 by sharing the Grammy stage with Daft Punk and Stevie Wonder, then performing his nominated Best Original Song at the Oscars, followed by two smash singles, a co-billing televised concert with Soundgarden that launched the NFL season from Seattle, and finally capping things off with nominations in three separate Album of the Year entries. Williams has much to be happy about, indeed. -A. Rodriguez

4. LORDE
New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde's star is still ascending. In 2014, she performed at multiple festivals, graced numerous magazine covers, and curated The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack herself, including her own excellent single, 'Yellow Flicker Beat.' -J. Price

5. SAM SMITH
Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour was a huge hit this year, reaching number one in the UK and number two stateside on the Billboard 200. To date, it's one of the biggest sellers of 2014, flanking on Taylor Swift's 1989. -J. Price
