Jason Mraz will give special interview for Best of Music 2014

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

How will Jason Mraz be ringing in the New Year? What will he remember most about 2014? Is there plenty of eggnog chugging around the Mraz homestead during the holidays? You'll soon know the replies to these questions, and a few more, that were answered by the Grammy-winning artist via email. The acclaimed singer-songwriter, who played to a full house at Benaroya Hall in late October, will help Seattle Gay News celebrate the 'Best of Music 2014' on December 19. Our choices for the year's best albums, singles and live performances, plus our picks for the hottest artists and worst music will be featured in the spread, along with Mraz's interview.

While touring in Asia, the multi-talented performer wrote his answers to several questions we sent over to him by email, marking the fourth time he's chatted with the SGN. He'll appear back-to-back nights at the Blaisdell Center in Honolulu on December 11-12, his final dates of the year, before resuming in February for a four-stop European outing that includes shows in Amsterdam and Scotland; he's touring in support of his latest release, Yes! featuring the single 'Love Someone.' Grab a copy of the December 19 SGN to read our Feature Artist Interview with Jason Mraz, and also find out what we selected as the Best of Music 2014.

If seeing Barry Manilow is on your bucket list, get your marking pen out. The Copacabana crooner, and former NYC Continental Baths singer, will perform May 27 at Key Arena, as part of his 27-city 'One Last Time! Tour.' The pop singer has always been mum about his private life, including his sexuality, and to my knowledge has never officially stated his preference, nor does he have to. His music speaks for itself with a catalog of beloved hits that have become karaoke favorites around the world, such as 'Can't Smile Without You,' 'Mandy,' 'It's a Miracle,' 'I Write the Songs,' 'Even Now,' and 'The Old Songs.' Tickets for Barry Manilow are on sale now at www.axs.com, priced between $35.75 and $125.75.

Also, coming soon to Seattle, is singer-songwriter Mat Kearney, who's putting out a new album in February titled Just Kids and following through with a tour that lands him in the Emerald City on March 6. The Oregon native will appear live at the Moore Theatre with tickets now on sale at www.stgpresents.org.

Were you considering buying tickets to the Meghan Trainor concert on February 14? Well, I'm the bearer of bad news: tickets are currently not available. The Valentine's Day show, part of the newbie's nationwide 'That Bass Tour,' is happening at the Neptune. Closer to the performance date, log onto www.stgpresents.org for any last-minute released tickets. You're also out of luck for Billy Idol on February 13 and Hozier, also on February 14, both at the Paramount Theatre.

This show may have slipped under your radar: Rufus Wainwright at the Moore Theatre, on December 6. That's right, the sensational pianist and vocalist is returning to Seattle, a city that he loves coming back to again and again, this weekend with a show titled 'The Best of Rufus Wainwright.' This is your chance to hear 'Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk,' 'Going to a Town,' 'The One You Love,' 'The Art Teacher,' and 'Poses,' among others, all on his 2014 compilation Vibrate: The Best of Rufus Wainwright. For tickets on Saturday, go directly to the Moore Theatre box office.

Finally, from worthy sources, don't be surprised if Madonna drops an album and hits the road in 2015. There's nothing to confirm now, but stick around.
