Nick Jonas, Stevie Wonder, Ariana Grande, Usher announce Seattle shows

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Hold onto your bonnets, people! The Seattle concert calendar is blowing up, evidenced by these upcoming shows - and more to come.

In case you're wondering which of the Jonas Brothers is Nick, well, he's the hottest one. He's also the baby, the youngest of the Grammy-nominated pop trio. But he's all grown up now - beefy, beautiful, bulging biceps - and these days, he's continuing his music career as a solo act. The 21 year-old artist is releasing a self-titled debut on November 11 featuring the new single 'Jealous,' and he's personally getting the word out to fans in 11 cities with a brief tour that starts in Seattle. Jonas, now dating Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo (he's lucky I like her, or else!!), will appear at The Showbox Market on September 22 to perform songs from his new album, and maybe a JoBros song or two, live. He recently appeared at a New York City Gay bar, where he did a semi-striptease. So if we scream loud enough, he might recreate the moment for us here in Seattle. Tickets for Nick Jonas are on sale now at axs.com, priced at $29.50. The concert starts at 8:30 p.m., but I'm told there will likely be an opening act. Follow me on Twitter (@seattlerocker) for any updates.

'Sir Duke,' 'Isn't She Lovely,' 'Love's in Need of Love Today,' and 'I Wish' are just a few of the tracks from Stevie Wonder's classic recording Songs in the Key of Life, preserved into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress and repeatedly mentioned as one of the greatest albums of all-time. The legendary singer-songwriter has selected 11 cities to showcase these tracks live and Seattle made the shortlist. Wonder will perform December 3 at Key Arena, his only Northwest appearance on this particular concert itinerary. Of his many accolades, the Detroit-born musician has received 25 Grammys, an Oscar, induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, selection into the Kennedy Centers Honors, and dozens of #1 singles on both the pop and R&B charts. Don't miss a rare opportunity to see this icon in action at Key Arena. Tickets go on sale September 22 (10 a.m.) at all Ticketmaster locations. From the press release, it's not indicated whether or not Wonder will also include other material, such as 'Master Blaster (Jammin'),' 'Part Time Lover,' 'Superstition,' 'Higher Ground,' or 'I Just Called to Say I Love You,' but he's gotta fill 90 minutes to 2 hours of stage time, so I'm guessing he'll add a few of these in there.

Ariana Grande sang the hell outta the National Anthem here in Seattle last week, didn't she? The pop sensation, whose single 'Break Free' is an international smash, was photographed with her specially-designed Seahawks jersey minutes before stepping onto CenturyLink Field to belt out the big number. Already a strong LGBT ally, Grande has announced dates for her first major tour, happening in Spring 2015, which includes a Seattle date at Key Arena. The actress-singer-fashionista will bring 'The Honeymoon Tour' to the sports venue on April 14, playing music from her Billboard #1 album, My Everything, and possibly a few cover tunes - she can do 'Break Free' all night and I won't complain. Tickets for Grande, scheduled to appear September 27 as the musical guest on 'Saturday Night Live,' go on sale September 20 (10 a.m.) at all Ticketmaster locations.

Seattle was one of the first 5 cities announced on Usher's upcoming 'The UR Experience' tour, but details weren't released until post-Labor Day weekend. The R&B superstar is coming to Key Arena, where he launched a previous tour years ago, on November 26, to promote his forthcoming eighth studio album, as well as delight fans with material from throughout his career. Usher's latest single/video is called 'She Came to Give It to You.' Tickets for the show are on sale now at all Ticketmaster locations.

There's more. Brandi Carlile, who has interviewed with Seattle Gay News, will perform three consecutive nights with the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall (Auditorium), on November 28-30. Hawaiian artist Makana is also slated to appear at Benaroya Hall (Recital Hall) on November 20, and Bumbershoot performers, Capital Cities, will return to Seattle on November 16 to play at The Showbox SoDo.

Finally, my special guest in The Music Lounge next week is Grammy winner Lisa Fischer, who has added a third performance at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley. She'll do one set on Tuesday, September 23 (7:30 p.m.) and two sets on Wednesday, September 24 (7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.). For reservations, go to www.jazzalley.com.
