Thank you Shaun Knittel

Good day:

I happened to notice the online link to the story of the capture of Ali Muhammed Brown, a horrific cautionary tale in so many ways, which I've been following since becoming aware of these vicious murders. As a print journalist for half a century, I've witnessed the erosion of journalistic values (don't take sides, get the whole story, no conflict-of-interest) that make me hesitant to identify with the profession anymore. So it was with increasing appreciation that I read Shaun Knittel's thoroughly and sensitively (without unnecessary sensationalism) reported article.

I must admit, after such a Seattle-based build-up on the story, the rather terse graf describing Brown's arrest in NJ left me wanting more, as well as amazed that no one I know in NJ had posted it on fb, since it happened a week+ ago! (Full disclosure: I lived in Newark, NJ for 12 years just prior to moving to Detroit two months ago, so Brown being a native of East Orange immediately caught my attention, and I've be 'on' about it on fb.) I found a bit more at nj.com . . . 'without incident'.

I hope you'll consider a follow-up piece on the families of all three of these men - at least one of the mothers of the murdered men seems to have been willing to talk. I'd especially like to know what Brown's mother thinks about her gun purchase now . . . 300 million guns in the U.S.; we have to start SOMEWHERE! Anti-violence/guns is a coalition-builder across sexual identity, age, race, class . . . .

Thanks again - I'll be keeping an eye on you!

Al
