Gay Russian teen dies after torture |
by Mike Andrew -
SGN Staff Writer
A Russian teenager has died as a result of torture by an anti-Gay, neo-Nazi group calling itself Occupy-Pedofilyay, according to Spectrum Human Rights Alliance.
The young man reportedly was one of several Gay teens kidnapped by the group, then videotaped as they were beaten and humiliated by their abductors. The teens were reportedly lured into a trap by hookup ads posted on VK, a popular Russian social media site.
In photos, the victim was shown stripped to his underwear, daubed with red paint, and forced to kneel in front of his attackers. Others have been sprayed with urine or forced to pose with dildos.
The young man said to have died was not identified by name, but it was reported that he was of Uzbek nationality. Russian neo-Nazis are known to target Jews and Central Asian Muslims, such as Uzbeks, as well as Gay men.
BEATINGS AND OUTINGS
A previous victim, identified as 19-year-old Alex Bulygin, committed suicide after his sexual identity was revealed in an online video. It was not stated definitively whether the Uzbek teen committed suicide or died as a result of injuries, but Spectrum Human Rights say he 'tragically died as a result of numerous tortures.'
In a related case, Gay rights activist Artem Gorodilov was kidnapped by Occupy-Pedofilyay and taken to the local cemetery, where he was beaten. His abductors then dismantled one of the grave monuments and forced Gorodilov to run in front of their car while carrying a huge wooden cross.
When Russian Orthodox authorities filed a complaint with the local police, members of the group were brought in for questioning but subsequently released without charges.
SUPPORTED BY OFFICIALS
The leader of Occupy-Pedofilyay has been identified as Maksim Martsinkevich, known as 'The Cleaver.' Other members of his group have not been identified by name, but their pictures have been posted online, posing with some of their victims.
Nevertheless, no charges have been brought against them by Russian authorities. According to Spectrum Human Rights, authorities have actually referred to the group, which purports to oppose child sex abuse, as one of the 'civil movements fighting the sins of the society.'
Human rights activist Dr. Valentin Degtyarev told Spectrum Human Rights that he had sent 'numerous written complains to the authorities' about Occupy-Pedofilyay, but this 'only resulted in his own persecution and threats directed at him and his 72-year-old mother.'
According to the British website Pink News, more than 500 similar groups have been formed across Russia using the VK site to entrap young Gay men.
Spectrum Human Rights is planning a conference on LGBT rights in Russia, to be held August 19-21 in Washington, D.C. Speakers will include prominent LGBT activists and scholars from Russia and the United States.
