Come have fun with Cyndi Lauper - Tony Award winner lands in Tacoma this weekend

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Congrats to Cyndi Lauper! The longtime singer, songwriter, and LGBT activist won her first prestigious theater accolade last weekend for composing the music for Broadway's current smash, Kinky Boots. The soundtrack CD for this musical came out just a few weeks ago, so be sure to download a copy of it. Lauper will appear Saturday, June 16, at Tacoma's Pantages Theater, where she will perform her classic pop album She's So Unusual in its entirety. I'm told she'll probably not include any songs from Kinky Boots in her show. A limited number of tickets are still available at www.broadwaycenter.org.

STILL NAILING IT DOWN
Nine Inch Nails will perform November 22 at Key Arena, and your guess is as good as mine as to who'll back up Trent Reznor on stage. This week, guitarist Adrian Belew (of King Crimson) reportedly left due to personal conflicts, leaving a possible lineup of Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, Ilan Rubin, and Josh Eustis. Either way, Reznor's in for the entire three-month-long North American tour. The Academy Award winner, co-composer, and lyricist for 2010's The Social Network and 2011's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will release Hesitation Marks on September 3 with the initial single 'Came Back Haunted' now available for download on iTunes. Tickets for the 'Nine Inch Nails: Tension 2013' concert in Seattle go on sale June 14 at www.livenation.com. Explosions in the Sky will open the show.

PASS THE HAGGIS
Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand are finally putting out a new album. Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action hits store shelves on August 27, yet there's no indication what the leadoff single will be. Recorded in London, Stockholm, Oslo, and Scotland, the recording includes 10 original tracks, some of which were introduced to Seattle fans when the quartet played to a sold-out crowd at The Showbox Market last year. The upcoming release is being described as follows: 'It is as much by virtue of its sonic daring and perfectly patch-worked eclecticism as the timeless songwriting flair that has long been their calling card.' We'll have to wait and see if that's indeed the case. No tour dates have been announced, but I suspect Franz Ferdinand will be on the road this fall/winter for a nationwide outing.

SHE'LL KEEP US WARM
Mary Lambert, who guests on Macklemore's 'Same Love' single, has been announced as a headlining performer for PrideFest, to be held Sunday, June 30, at Seattle Center. Other artists appearing on four stages this year include Kristine W, Justin Utley, Hi Fashion, and Double Duchess. The event is free and runs from noon to 8 p.m. For more details, go to www.seattlepridefest.org.

Speaking of Macklemore, congratulations to him and Ryan Lewis, whose 'Thrift Shop' climbed four spots in one week to #22 on YouTube's all-time most-viewed videos list. As of this writing, they've racked up 340 million views, trailing the #21 video, Katy Perry's 'Firework,' by 30 million.
