Some hot Gossip on tap for Sunday

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

In case you haven't heard, Gossip performs this Sunday, May 26, at the Moore Theatre. The garage trio, featuring out band members Beth Ditto and Hannah Blilie, will appear as the main act for 'Yahoo! On the Road with Gossip,' which also includes sets by Capital Cities, Twenty One Pilots, and Willy Moon. Tickets are complimentary and are scheduled to be distributed by Yahoo! around the city on the day before and day of show. To find out where you might be able to scoop up a free ducat, log onto to either facebook.com/yahooontheroad or www.ontheroad.yahoo.com. Blilie, the trio's drummer, interviewed with me last year. I anticipate Gossip's song roster to include 'Standing in the Way of Control,' 'Move in the Right Direction,' and 'Heavy Cross.'

HOLE LOTTA LOVE
Hold onto your children, here comes Courtney Love! The former Hole frontwoman will make an appearance at the Moore on July 23, performing songs from throughout her career, including 'Miss World,' 'Malibu,' 'Violet,' 'Celebrity Skin,' and 'Skinny Little Bitch.' This is the first solo tour that I can recall for the ex-Seattleite, and it'll either be amazing or a train wreck - maybe both - but regardless, it begs to be seen. Tickets are on sale now at LiveNation.com, at the Moore and Paramount box offices, or by calling 1-877-784-4849.

FIT FOR A QUEEN
Openly Gay singer-songwriter John Grant received worldwide acclaim for his recording, Queen of Denmark, which British music mag Mojo named the best album of 2010. His follow-up effort, this year's Pale Green Ghosts, is also earning considerable buzz and he's introducing fans to it with a headlining tour that includes a Seattle date on June 20. Grant will interview with me here in The Music Lounge very soon; look for the issue date announcement on SGN's Facebook page. Ticket information for his show, at Barboza on Capitol Hill, is at www.neumos.com.

DEAL ME IN
Melissa Etheridge has announced a summer concert at Tulalip Amphitheatre, at Tulalip Resort Casino. The Grammy winner performs August 18 at the same outdoor venue that will host the Go-Gos and the B-52's on July 6. Ticket information for both concerts is available at www.tulalipresort.com. Other new shows to tell you about are James Blake on November 20 (The Showbox SoDo), Boyce Avenue on October 19 (The Showbox Market), and former pop twink Aaron Carter, who brings 'The After Party Tour' to El Corazon on November 22. (Um, what? Yep, this has 'hot mess' written all over it.)

SASQUATCH IN OUR SIGHTS
Finally, safe travels to everyone headed this weekend to The Gorge for Sasquatch. SGN writer Jessica Price is attending the festival and will sum up the experience in next week's edition.

SOLID GOLD HEIST
Check it: Macklemore just got bigger. The Seattle rapper, who interviewed with SGN in December, reached a huge milestone when his album The Heist (with Ryan Lewis) was recently certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, signifying 500,000 copies sold. Meanwhile, the single 'Thrift Shop' was certified quintuple-platinum with sales of 5 million.

Macklemore also scooped up his first major accolade in the past week - a Billboard Music Award for 'Best Rap Song of the Year.' We have about two months before the MTV Music Awards nominations are announced, and Macklemore is expected to nab at least three to four nods. Then, in December, we'll learn if he's headed to the 2014 Grammys. For now, he continues to roll. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis perform this weekend at the Sasquatch ?Music Festival.
