Mimosas with Mama! - The weekly drag brunch returns Sunday at a new location

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

There are many reasons why people hated seeing The Grill on Broadway close its doors. One big reason was that shows like 'Mimosas With Mama,' Seattle's longest-running weekly drag brunch starring Mama Tits and cast, had to find a new home.

At the time, Tits and crew had just debuted, with great success, a 30-minute version of Hairspray, the musical by John Waters. Mama Tits was on vacation when news broke of The Grill's closure, but she was quick to tell fans of the show that they would, in fact, find a new place as quickly as possible.

Well, she has now done just that. Skyscraper Entertainment announced last week that The Unicorn/Narwhal (1118 E. Pike St.) is the new home of 'Mimosas With Mama.' According to Tits, the show will cost $12 a person in advance or $15 at the door. Food and drinks are available for purchase from the Unicorn/Narwhal staff but are separate from the price of a ticket. You can catch the show Sundays starting May 26 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. (doors at 12:30 with the show starting at 1:30 sharp). Tickets are available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/388136.

After learning that The Grill was closing, Mama Tits said in a media release, 'Needless to say, we packed up our drag, grabbed our wigs, and hit the road to find a new home!'

STILL ON THE HILL
'After many meetings, long discussions and searching high and low,' they found The Unicorn/Narwhal, 'keeping us in the heart of the Capitol Hill neighborhood we know and love!'

There will be a breakfast buffet, the Unicorn/Narwhal brunch menu, a full bar, Jell-O shots, and, of course, drag queens. 'What more could you ask for on a Sunday?' asks Mama Tits.

'Let the cast of 'Mimosas with Mama' take you on a crazy, wild, fun journey you never knew you wanted to go on. It's comedy, lip-syncing, live singing, performance art, audience participation, great food, fabulous drinks, and fierce queens all rolled up into one fabulous show! Plus 'Mimosas With Mama' has gone over the top with the recent addition of '30-min. Hairspray'!

According to Mama Tits, 'the first act of 'Mimosas With Mama' is a fabulous cabaret variety show, and then we move into our signature Game Show ('This Deal Is a Drag') for our halftime fun. Act Two we will transport you to Baltimore and bring you '30-min. Hairspray'! How did we do it, you ask? Our team has taken the original John Waters film, the movie musical, and the Broadway production of Hairspray and deconstructed all three shows to then weave together our own 30(ish)-minute version. There are 14 characters in our production and only five cast members - you have to see it to believe it!'

Mama Tits invites SGN readers to come out to 'Mimosas With Mama' and celebrate your birthday, anniversary, wedding, or other special occasion at The Unicorn/Narwhal this Sunday!
