Pride Foundation welcomes three new board members

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Pride Foundation announced early this week the addition of three people committed to furthering the foundation's mission to its board of directors: Greg Smith (Bozeman, Montana), Darci Van Duzer Heroy (Eugene, Oregon), and Jean-Paul Willynck (Seattle).

'We couldn't be happier to have Greg, Darci, and Jean-Paul join our board,' says Pride Foundation Board President Doug Exworthy. 'In addition to being great supporters of the foundation, they bring a diverse set of experiences and perspectives that will be a great contribution to guiding the foundation and its future work.'

Smith is a licensed mental health counselor and the executive director of AIDS Outreach, a Bozeman-based HIV testing, service, and support organization. After receiving his master's degree in mental health counseling from Seattle University, the former priest and Montana native dedicated himself to making the state safer, more educated, and proud of its LGBTQ youth. Smith is also a health educator and chair of the foundation's Montana Leadership Action Team.

Van Duzer Heroy is an independent contract attorney in Eugene and a senior civil rights investigator for the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries. A graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law, Monterey Institute of International Studies, and Portland State University, Van Duzer Heroy is passionate about supporting through her volunteer work organizations advancing LGBTQ, economic justice, and women's rights issues.

Willynck serves as a project coordinator with EnviroIssues, assisting both public and private clients with their public engagement needs. In addition to holding a B.A. in urban studies from the University of Washington (UW) at Tacoma, he is currently working toward an M.A. in geography from McGill University. Willynck also serves as co-chair of the UW Tacoma Alumni Council's Advocacy Committee.

Based in Seattle, Pride Foundation is a donor-supported community foundation providing grants, scholarships, and community leadership in the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. As a catalyst for change, Pride Foundation supports transformative philanthropy, programs, and individuals that advance equality for the LGBTQ community.
