In Memoriam: The Rev. Sue Stackhouse (1947-2012)

The Rev. Sue Anne Stackhouse passed away July 24, 2012, after a two-year battle with cancer. Her life partner, the Rev. Anne Hulse, was nearby.

Sue was born February 6, 1947, in Red Cloud, Nebraska. She graduated with honors from Fort Hays State University, where she majored in speech pathology and psychology. She worked for the Fresno, California, school district for 13 years before moving to Washington state in 1985. There she got involved with Seattle Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) and received clerical training at the Samaritan Institute of Religious Studies. She and Anne moved to Bellingham to establish Song of Messiah MCC, where she served eight and a half years as pastor. Sue was an outspoken advocate for LGBT rights and often gave lectures on 'Homosexuality and the Bible.' Memorial services will be held in Seattle at University Temple Methodist Church on August 11 at 2 p.m., and in Bellingham at the Center for Spiritual Living on August 12 at 4 p.m. The family requests that charitable donations be made in lieu of flowers.
