Reader questions church role in petitioning
I have been a Mormon for many years and have just recently gotten divorced. I came out to my wife five years before we split.

Nevertheless, as I read the article on R-74 (June 8) I'm sure that a large number of the signatures came from churches and the forms were probably passed out in the church during Sunday School. Now I can tell you that there is a certain stigma to NOT signing that when it is passed to you in Sunday School.

The reason that I know this is because I looked at the [Yakima] signing sheets for [2009's] R-71 and & it looked like all the people who would have been in the Sunday School class with me. So I'm sure that is what happened in many cases and I would think that many of them could be invalidated on that likelihood alone. In addition, their tax-exempt status as a church could also be in jeopardy as result of doing that on church property.

I know that this happens because I've been there, and I'm really upset that Mormons and other Christians follow through with such hateful behavior. I just know that Christ would not behave that way!
