Madonna tour kicks off in Tel Aviv, four months until Seattle show

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

We have lift-off! The massive MDNA world tour by Madonna was officially launched in Tel Aviv, Israel, on May 31. In the sold-out audience of 35,000 fans were 600 members of Israeli and Palestinian peace camps, all of whom received hand-delivered free tickets to the show by the pop icon. Also in the audience was a film crew from Conan O'Brien's late-night program.

Spoiler Alert: The tour set list is rumored to include 'Girl Gone Wild,' 'Open Your Heart,' 'Masterpiece,' 'Like A Virgin,' Give Me All Your Luvin',' 'Music,' 'Hung Up,' 'Papa Don't Preach,' 'Material Girl,' and 'Express Yourself' (whether it will include a 'Born This Way' mash-up remains a mystery). In total, more than 20 songs are said to be performed on this road outing, the ninth global tour of Madonna's career and her first live appearances since the 2008-09 Sticky & Sweet tour that came within two hours of Seattle - a one-night stand in Vancouver, B.C.

This time around, fans here in the Jet City will get the opportunity to experience the legendary artist's concert without having to gas up the car. Madonna will appear in back-to-back shows on October 2 and 3 at Key Arena. Some tickets still remain for the second performance, and a limited number of VIP packages are available for the first one. Both are expected to sell out closer to the actual dates.

During the tour, spanning five continents and lasting through early 2013, Madonna will wear designer costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander Wang, and Jeremy Scott, who helped with the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February. Longtime collaborator Arianne Phillips, a famed costume designer who earned an Oscar nomination for last year's W.E., has been quoted as saying that up to 700 pairs of shoes were traveling with the entourage on this tour. It isn't clear if they're all for Madonna.

From Israel, the MDNA tour moves to the United Arab Emirates, where additional tickets have been released due to overwhelming demand, and then to Turkey, Italy, Spain, and Central Europe. And for Seattle fans, the countdown continues with four months to go until the Queen of Pop lands here!
