THANK YOU, MIKE ANDREW, FOR COURAGEOUS ARTICLE
Mr. Andrew,
My name is Duane Fortier. I am writing to thank you for your article about Fr. Ryan & his scrotum, et al. I was elated to read this story. Many years ago, I went to Sacred Heart Grade School, in Tacoma, WA. & Through them, I was confirmed at St. James in Seattle (in 1956).
I was Gay then (just didn't know it, much less the hows and what-fors to do about it). It is sooo very refreshing to see my junior peers out there pressing forward with the news, and especially this groundbreaking move by a priest. Most probably, he will be hearing from Rome - and sooner rather than later.
I have been out most probably longer than you've been here (on earth) ... lol ... I came out sometime after I got home from Vietnam, circa 1966.
Anyway, I digress. Mainly just wanted to say 'thanx' and send you a big hug for your courage in getting this out there.
Some years ago, I had lived in San Francisco for 25 years during the wonderful-times (before the plague). Harvey Milk was a personal friend of mine, and he definitely would have said 'thank you,' so take it from him, too!
Duane Fortier, Concord, CA
