Rise n' Shine's Big Bail Out 2012

The Grill on Broadway was host venue to the zany 'jail' of Rise n' Shine's 15th Annual Big Bail Out on Wednesday, March 28. Deputy Danica Smith hauled our guilty volunteers to 'jail' each dressed up in their various western gear. Judge Rick North sentenced 13 teams of four 'jailees' who each spent an hour to raise 'bail' to send kids to Rise n' Shine camp.

The dastardly duo Evan Luckey and Marv Whitson with support from The Stonewall Gangsters Soccer Team definitely hit the soccer ball through the goal. The Stonewall team blew through their team goal of $1,800 by collecting over $7,000! This was not accomplished without some tense moments. Sheriff Michael Dunlop stepped in at the last minute to prevent a brewing jailbreak between Team Union Bank (UB Proud!) and Team Kwanchai, led by Jonathan Mathews.

There was some creative fundraising going on in other parts of the country as well. One 'jailee' and devoted volunteer, Renee Perrault, raised her 'bail money' from her motor home in Yuma, Arizona. 'I will stay in our home without the air conditioning until I raise my bail!' She singlehandedly raised $2,000. When all the money is put in the local depository, Rise n' Shine will have $24,000 to send kids to summer camp.

A huge thanks to Grill on Broadway servers, patrons, managers, and their incredible owner Matthew Walsh, who enjoyed watching the 40 jailees from the watering hole above the 'jail.' Kudos to this strong supporter of the entire AIDS community and of Rise n' Shine. Already teams are strategizing for 2012.
