Deborah Cox to headline Seattle Red Dress Party

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Get your red dresses ready, boys - Deborah Cox is coming to town!

It's official. The steering committee for the 4th Annual Seattle Red Dress Party, benefiting Seattle non-profits working with those living with HIV/AIDS, announced on December 1 (in connection with World AIDS Day) that legendary singer and dance-floor diva Deborah Cox will make her Seattle debut headlining the upcoming party scheduled for February 18, 2012.

The Seattle Red Dress Party is one of the year's best parties, and this year's event will be a night you won't want to miss - especially if you've never been brave (or fun) enough to wear a red dress and heels. Deborah Cox is one of the music industry's most notable voices, and I can't think of any Gay man that doesn't have her on his iPod! She is, without a doubt, an iconic voice in Gay music. And she's coming to Seattle!

While singing with Celine Dion, Cox was discovered by the infamous Clive Davis and instantly signed to Arista Records. A multi-platinum selling and a multi-talented entertainer, Cox has earned three Juno Awards, conquered the R&B and pop charts (including six top-20 Billboard R&B singles), had an impressive 10 No. 1 hits on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart, and landed the lead role in Elton John and Tim Rice's Broadway musical, Aida. Cox will be returning to Broadway in 2012 where she will portray the legendary Josephine Baker in Josephine.

Joining Cox will be local DJ sensation DJ Brian Gorr.

'DJ Brian Gorr is a crowd favorite and a legend in the LGBT club scene, of course he is the perfect fit for this community-centered event,' said Seattle Red Dress Party's executive director, Sam Galano.

DJ Almond Brown will open the night and one of Seattle's most legendary drag superstars, Gaysha Starr, will once again grace the stage and host the 2012 event.

Haven't been to a Red Dress Party before? There are a few things you need to know: You cannot get in without wearing an all-red dress. You will not be granted access to the party, held at Fremont Studios (155 N. 35th St.), if your dress is not red. It is mandatory that you have fun and rock that dress, honey!

Tickets are on sale now and available through www.seattlereddressparty.org. The event is expected to sell out, so purchasing tickets early is recommended. The beneficiary organizations are Gay City Health Project, Lifelong AIDS Alliance, Rosehedge/Multifaith Works, and Rise n' Shine. Please send any inquiries to info@seattlereddressparty.org.
