DOJ says DOMA unconstitutional DOMA, motivated by bias

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a brief in federal court on July 1, arguing that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional because it was 'was motivated in large part by animus toward Gay and Lesbian individuals and their intimate relationships.'

Betty Ford, the outspoken and much-admired wife of President Gerald R. Ford who overcame alcoholism and an addiction to pills and helped found one of the best-known rehabilitation centers in the nation, died Friday in Palm Springs, Calif. She was 93.
