Organized labor participated proudly in this year's Pride Parade.

Joining Pride At Work - the AFL-CIO's LGBT constituency organization - in a special labor contingent were CLUW, PSARA, UAW 4121, and UFCW 21.

The Pride At Work contingent was endorsed by the Martin Luther King County Labor Council (MLKCLC).

UNITE HERE Local 8, Teamsters Local 117, and WFSE Council 28 organized their own contingents for the Parade.

CLUW, the Coalition of Labor Union Women, was founded in 1974 to help create a more effective voice of women within the organized labor movement. It is one of the constituency organizations affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

PSARA, the Puget Sound Alliance for Retired Americans, represents retired working people. It is playing a crucial role in defending Medicare and Social Security from budget cuts.

UAW (United Auto Workers) 4121 represents graduate teaching assistants and research assistants at the University of Washington.

UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) 21 is this state's largest private-sector union local, representing more than 38,000 members in the grocery, retail, and healthcare industries.

Pride At Work is affiliated with the AFL-CIO, but we also include members of Change To Win and independent unions, and non-union allies. Pride At Work was chartered as an AFL-CIO affiliate in 1997, but here in Seattle we built on years of work that had already been done by Out Front Labor Coalition.

The MLKCLC includes 150 local unions representing 78,000 workers in King County and recently reaffirmed its support for LGBT inclusive anti-discrimination language in all union contracts.

UNITE HERE 8 represents some 4,000 workers in the hospitality industry in Washington state. Local 8 is currently negotiating new contracts in all of its workplaces.

UNITE HERE 8 scored a breakthrough victory with its 2007 Westin contract - the first hotel contract in the country to explicitly protect Transgender workers.

Teamsters 117 represents workers in a number of private-sector industries, and public-sector occupations including the state Department of Corrections.

WFSE (Washington Federation of State Employees) is this state's largest state employees' union with some 19,000 members.
