Sade, The Sounds, Foo Fighters, The Cars

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

The wait is finally over - well, almost. Sade is coming back to Seattle, scheduled to appear August 14 at Key Arena. The multiple Grammy-winning act makes its first Northwest appearance in more than 10 years - and personally it feels more like 20. Sade's latest album, 2010's Soldier of Love, was both a commercial and critical hit. Ticket information for the concert, expected to sell out in advance, was not available at press time. Visit www.sade.com or www.livenation.com for updates. Seattle Gay News looks forward to bringing you coverage of this exciting live event.

It's confirmed: The Sounds are interviewing with me next week. The Swedish rock outfit will release their new album, Something to Die For, on March 29, which contains the leadoff single 'Better Off Dead.' What's with the death theme, I wonder? Anyway, an upcoming tour is being planned for the U.S. and is sure to include Seattle, and I'll ask them for a specific date when they interview here in The Music Lounge on April 1.

Is your garage big enough to fit the Foo Fighters? Seriously, is it? The Grammy-winning rockers hand-picked eight cities for their upcoming 'Garage Tour,' in which they'll perform at someone's actual home, and Seattle is on the list for an April 27 performance. The group, led by former Seattle resident and Nirvana member Dave Grohl, will put out White Light on April 12, a new record featuring fellow Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic as a guest performer. Grohl, by the way, was one of the first mainstream rockers to publicly sport a white knot in support of Gay marriage. To enter your garage in the contest - sorry, pool cabanas are ineligible - simply log onto to www.1077theend.com for details and entry requirements. The Foo Fighters' mini 'Garage Tour' is sponsored by Blackberry.

Brace yourself, '80s kids. The Cars have reunited, set to release their first album in 24 years with lead singer Rik Ocasek. Responsible for a slew of hits that includes 'Drive,' 'Good Times Roll,' 'Since You're Gone,' 'Magic,' 'Shake It Up' - um, I could keep going - the pop-new wave group is back in the saddle and just introduced their new video for 'Sad Song,' available on YouTube. No official word yet on a tour, but stash a portion of your tax return aside just in case - from me to you, it's quite likely The Cars will take the forthcoming album, Move Like This (May 10 release), on the road. Hello again, skinny ties!

Elton John will serve as host and co-musical guest on Saturday Night Live, slated for the April 2 episode. Joining the Gay entertainer on stage will be Leon Russell, who collaborated with him on last year's brilliant effort The Union (Best Albums/CDs of 2010, Seattle Gay News).

You snooze, you lose. The following Seattle concerts are now sold out: My Chemical Romance on April 3 (The Showbox SoDo), Ani DiFranco on April 16 (The Showbox Market), and both Fleet Foxes shows on May 2 and 3 (Moore Theatre). Also, Jake Shimabukuro's back-to-back performances at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley are at full capacity - even I can't squeeze in.

Finally, support local music retailers like Easy Street, Wall of Sound, Silver Platters, Holy Cow, and Sonic Boom on April 16, who'll join independent shops across the country for 'Record Store Day.' If you're interested in new releases by Jennifer Hudson, Adele, R.E.M., The Strokes, or Britney Spears, then you might wanna wait a few weeks more to help your Seattle record stores stay in business.
