BenDeLaCreme brings 'Tales From the Musicquarium' to Triple Door

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

'Tales From
The Musicquarium'
the Triple Door
Monday nights

What's better than a free movie? 'Tales From the Musicquarium' free movie Mondays with BenDeLaCreme at the Triple Door (216 Union Street).

BenDeLaCreme is easily one of Seattle's most beloved entertainers. Hot off the run of her first-ever solo show and as the lead role in Century Ballroom's dance show Century High, DeLa will screen her favorite horror classics (though that doesn't mean they're especially classic) with games, prizes, drink specials, and her own gripping film analysis and drunken ramblings!

'It's been a year of big productions projects for me, and I wanted a chance to switch it up with something a little more intimate,' DeLa told Seattle Gay News. 'I love putting together shows like Terminally Delightful, HOMO for the Holidays, and Century High, but every once in a while I need to get back to my roots with something fun and casual where we all just get to hang out in a bar, have some drinks, and watch truly awful movies.'

'Tales From the Musicquarium' is a hoot for me because I like to spend a Monday night curled up with a campy horror flick and a big bottle of booze anyway & it's just like you're all in my living room with me!' she said. 'Except that I don't have to clean anything or freshen any drinks or any of that nonsense. They have people for that, thank God.'

All the hysterics take place from 8-11 p.m. inside the Musicquarium Lounge at the Triple Door - for free!

'I love the Triple Door!' DeLa told SGN. 'It's such a blessing that Seattle has such a beautiful, luxurious venue that is so supportive of the wacky array of local artists who parade through. Over the last few years I've been lucky enough to work there frequently, thanks to producers like Kitten Larue and Lily Verlaine. It's come to feel very homey. The entire staff is so sweet and supportive; it really is the perfect place for a night like this. It's chic and sophisticated, yet I feel comfortable enough to take off my shoes and fall asleep under a table & don't tell them that.'

The first film, which screened last Monday, was Sleepaway Camp. 'It's a 1983 trainwreck with everything I look for in a picture: truly inspirational bad acting, insane Gay subplots, a girl getting killed with her own curling iron, a man's face getting eaten by bees, and a pair of the shortest running shorts you've ever seen,' said DeLa. 'This film perfectly set the bar for the rest of the series. It just set it right on the floor.'

Yes, ladies and gentleman, there is more to life and Monday nights than RuPaul's Drag Race. DeLa is an absolute comedic genius and a delight to be around.

'Come out and see for yourself,' she said. 'There's nothing to lose since there is never a cover, and there is plenty to gain. Not only will you get to see some of the dumbest movies ever committed to celluloid and hear my thrilling analysis of said films, you'll also have the opportunity to win all sorts of fabulous prizes with our interactive Scary Movie Bingo. Also, I don't believe any other night offers a drink special with a Pop Rocks-rimmed glass. That'd be enough to get me out of the house.'
