On February 27, The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Seattle held their 9th annual bowling event and fundraiser, 'Bowling for Equality,' at The Garage on Capitol Hill. The event is HRC Seattle's second-largest fundraising event and was a complete success. HRC Seattle officials told SGN that nearly 300 people were in attendance.
The bowling fundraiser was split into three two-hour time frames, with prices ranging from $40 (included bowling, annual membership to HRC, light appetizers, and bowling shoes) to $70 VIP tickets (gourmet hors d'oeuvres, a complimentary drink, free pool within the downstairs VIP bowling lane, DJ, and more).
According to HRC Seattle officials, events like Bowling for Equality are important because it affords the group an opportunity to educate the public about the issues facing the LGBT community.
'The money raised will go to HRC national,' said Josh Nelson, membership and community events co-chair, 'which invests strategically in the campaigns of political candidates who will support pro-equality legislation.'
Nelson told Seattle Gay News the organization has plans to march in the annual Seattle Pride Parade and will also have a booth at Seattle PrideFest 2011 at Seattle Center.
The next major HRC Seattle event is the organization's biggest fundraiser: the 12th Annual Pacific Northwest HRC Dinner in September.
HRC envisions an America where Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people are ensured equality and embraced as full members of the American family at home, at work, and in every community. Seattle Human Rights Campaign advocates on the behalf of Seattle LGBT community, mobilizes grassroots actions in our community, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office, and educates the public about LGBT issues.
