Chris Brown apologizes after anti-Gay tweets

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Singer Chris Brown just can't seem to hold his temper. After torpedoing his career in 2009 by assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna, how does Brown kick-start his fledging comeback? By getting into a war of words with Raz-B, rapper and former member of the group B2K, on Twitter.

Raz-B is currently feuding with his cousin/ ex-manager Chris Stokes. The drama between these two is pretty ugly and there seems to be no love lost. Raz-B has accused Stokes of sexual assault and rape, which Stokes vehemently denies. Somehow (neither Brown nor Raz-B has confirmed why) Brown began to tweet Raz-B, going for the jugular by poking fun at the idea of Raz-B being raped by a man and accusing the rapper of being Gay.

Brown had called Raz-B a 'dick in da booty ass lil boy' after Raz-B had commented on Brown's attitudes toward women. To Brown's disrespectful remark, Raz-B responded, 'I love how you resort to disrespectful, low-brow tactics when you clearly sabotaged your own career by beating women!' Brown wasn't finished. After several followers suggested to Brown he might be fostering some anti-Gay sentiment with his tweets, Brown blasted off another round, letting his followers know that there is no way he would be deleting any of his tweets. Raz-B doesn't earn any credit either, as he began to accuse Brown of being Gay.

So two entertainers get into a shouting war on Twitter. Nobody would've cared a few months ago. Enter Tyler Clementi and all of the other Gay teen suicides, due in part to cyber-bullying. News flash, Chris Brown and Raz-B: Your anti-Gay tweets have a real-world consequence. An estimated 1.2 million followers of Brown and Raz-B read the homophobic exchange. No doubt, some of those million are LGBT.

Anti-Gay bashing has no place on Twitter and can have damaging and dangerous implications.

Apparently Brown's handlers agree. The musician now says he loves his Gay fans and that his remarks weren't meant to offend anyone except Raz-B.

'I'm not homophobic! He's just disrespectful,' Brown tweeted. ' By the way, I love all my Gay fans and this immature act is not targeted at you! It's wack as fuck that everybody can bash me, but soon as I defend myself it's World War III. I take shit from everybody &it's cool though.'
