Comedian Julie Goldman returns to Seattle for one night only

by Shaun Knittel - SGN Associate Editor

Big Gay Comedy with Julie Goldman October 7 Julia's on Broadway

Out Lesbian and funny woman Julie Goldman has a fondness for the Emerald City. The comedian, actress, and musician performed for throngs of rainbow-clad Pride revelers at the 2010 Seattle Pride Fest.

'Seattle is so cool!' Julie told SGN. 'Everyone was so nice - I loved it.'

When the owners of Julia's on Broadway approached Julie about a stand-up comedy night in their cabaret showroom, she jumped at the chance. Julie will headline Big Gay Comedy on October 7 alongside fellow comics Andrew Tsakos and Carol Maki.

Julia is outrageous, fearless, and uncensored. She is a cast member of the Big Gay Sketch Show and the star of the Julie Goldman Celesbian Interviews on LOGO. Julie has also been featured on Comedy Central's Live at Gotham and performs regularly with The J.A.P. Show: Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad. She is a 2007 Manhattan Association of Clubs and Colleges award winner, and she most recently received the 2008 NewNowNext: Brink of Fame Comic Award in New York City.

'The audience can expect to laugh their asses off,' she told SGN, 'and possibly get offended - fingers crossed - and to just have a kick-ass awesome time.'

Julie is one of comedy's most recognizable LGBT stand-up acts. Onstage, she's a firecracker of energy and her brand of mixing comedy with music and current events has catapulted her past her peers as a Gay and Lesbian humorist with activist undertones. She is funny, real, and in your face.

'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' marriage equality, and health insurance are important issues for me. People are unemployed and it blows - and so many people are without health insurance, and hospitals are closing,' said Julie. 'It's just so sad and unnecessary and I'm so sick of the struggle for LGBT rights. It's ridiculous that they are even issues that get a vote. Trust! If either Don't Ask, Don't Tell and marriage equality were racial issues or had anything to do with straight men, the cases would be shut and all rights would be had. The Gay community is the last bastion of sanctified, legalized, public discrimination, and it sickens me.'

Julie's remedy for what might ail us? Laughter. As a stand-up comedian, she is comfortable and confident - and most importantly, funny.

Aside from starring on LOGO cable TV, Julie says she is passionate about movie production. 'I'm currently working on getting two feature films funded,' she said. 'If anyone want to produce a movie, they should check out my movie website, www.nicestthingthemovie.com. I'm currently building the website for a second feature, which is a Gay zombie movie called Gay Baby Army.'

Big Gay Comedy Show featuring Julie Goldman is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. and runs till 11 p.m. Tickets range from $20 for general seating to $40 for VIP seating that includes a meet-and-greet with the star and a photo. Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/130519. Dinner is available before the show. For dinner reservations, call (206) 334-0513.
