Moby interview coming up in Pride Music issue, June 18

by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

How open-minded is Moby? Extremely. The electronic music icon, assumed to be straight (though he's never labeled his own sexual orientation), isn't shy about throwing his weight to the GLBT community. I caught up with the Grammy-nominated artist in his New York City flat to get the scoop on tour plans and upcoming projects in 2010 - what I got was an earful of strong criticism aimed at homophobes, right-wing conservatives, and idiots in general. Moby also credits Gay culture for putting electronic-dance music on the map, something he knows firsthand from partying at Gay clubs in his teen years and being introduced to songs by Donna Summer, one of his favorite all-time divas. Moby's interview prints in our June 18 issue, inside our special Pride Music section.

Speaking of divas, the music team here at Seattle Gay News - myself, Shaun Knittel, Jessica Price, and Christopher Byrne - has collectively selected the "50 Biggest Divas in Music" that spans nearly every genre, from pop to hip-hop, country to alternative. Based on many elements - music catalog, legendary status, Gay admiration, tabloid headlines, and bad attitude were all factored in - we've ranked them in order from 1 to 50, and will reveal the complete list in the June 18 issue, also featuring the interview with Moby. Did your favorite diva make our list? Find out in two weeks.
