Seattle talent show returns May 2

2010 SOAP PRIDE IDOL
R PLACE
SUNDAYS THROUGH
JUNE 20
Last week, the Seattle Out and Proud (SOaP) Pride Idol took its one and only break of the season. I hope all of you undiscovered talents in the LGBT community took the opportunity to find that perfect song, buy that cute outfit, and drink plenty of hot lemon tea (we don't want voices cracking as bad as Whitney's) in preparation for May 2 as we search for Seattle's next Pride Idol!
This year's prizes are well worth it for you to show up and "hit us with your best shot." The first-place winner will receive $1,000 cash (and other fabulous prizes), the runner-up will get $500, and the second runner-up will be awarded $250.
Beginning May 2, in order to enter the contest you must pay an entry fee of $20. Once you are signed up, you can choose from over 10,000 songs (covering everything from the 1950s through today) from the comprehensive Seattle's Best Karaoke song list. You may also bring your own music on audio CD, however, the audio track must be instrumental without lead vocals. If you do bring your own music, the CD must be given to DJ SeXXXual Chocolate 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the day's contest.
The preliminary rounds on April 11 and 18 were amazing and certainly set the tone for this year's competition. The other judges and I expect the competition to heat up each week as we get closer to the finals. If you show up and are not chosen to move on to the finals and do not win wildcard, you can simply take the judges' advice, adjust your act a bit, and show up the next week for another go at it. Even though competition is stiff, the important thing to remember is to invite your friends and have a good time. Whether you are a spectator or the next Mary J. Blige or Adam Lambert, Pride Idol is a great way to wrap up your weekend. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the competition starts at 8 p.m. on the third floor of R Place.
The season's schedule is as follows:
o Round 1: Sunday, May 2
o Round 2: Sunday, May 9
o Round 3: Sunday, May 16
o Round 4: Sunday, May 23
o Round 5: Sunday, May 30
o Round 6: Sunday, June 6
o Wildcard Round: Sunday, June 13
o Pride Idol Finals: Sunday, June 20
Pride Idol is presented by Esurance.
