Pop/R&B diva Rihanna to launch tour at White River Amphitheatre |
by Albert Rodriguez -
SGN A&E Writer
File this under 'can't wait 'til summer.' Barbadian knockout Rihanna will launch a 25-date tour in the Seattle area, and is slated to appear at White River Amphitheatre on July 2. The two-time Grammy winner currently holds the #1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart with 'Rude Boy,' the second released track from Rated R, selected by Seattle Gay News as one of the 10 Best Albums/CDs of 2009.
This is Rihanna's first headlining tour to come through Seattle, as her previous visit to the city was as an opening act for Kanye West a few years ago at Key Arena. Songs likely to be included on the set list, besides 'Rude Boy,' are 'Umbrella,' 'Russian Roulette,' 'SOS,' and 'Pon De Replay.'
Opening for Rihanna is red-hot pop newbie Ke$ha, whose debut album Animal is a surprise top seller in 2010. With an international smash hit 'Tik Tok' under her belt, the young Californian has quickly drawn her own legion of fans, many of whom are Gay men (um, no surprise). Upstart rapper Nicki Manaj is also listed as a supporting act for Rihanna's 'Last Girl' tour.
Stay glued to Seattle Gay News for more on this exciting event in the months ahead.
