Rainbow City Band looking for a few good musicians

Rainbow City Band
summer rehearsal
March 30 at 7 PM
Wedgwood
Community Church

The Rainbow City Band (RCB) is entering its 13th summer marching season and is looking for musical talent from Seattle's LGBT community. The band's first summer rehearsal will take place on March 30 at the Wedgwood Community Church (8102 30th Ave. NE). Those interested in joining RCB are encouraged to attend the initial 7 p.m. rehearsal.

The band and color guard will also gather on March 31 at the Broadway Grill (314 Broadway E.) from 6:30-9 p.m. to celebrate the season kickoff and answer questions from prospective members.

RCB consists of a concert band that plays in the fall, winter, and spring seasons, a swing ensemble and a pep band that play throughout the year, a color guard, and a marching band that has become a tradition in such festivities as the Fremont Solstice Parade and the Seattle PRIDE Parade, according to an RCB press release.

The band is currently looking for musicians of all skill levels. "Anyone who plays a wind instrument, we'd love to have them. All instruments are needed," said Kathleen Grauman, a trombone player in the band, as well as the membership coordinator on the band's Board of Directors. Grauman has been with the band for 11 years.

"We've participated [in the Seattle Pride Parade] for 11 years. We started with a really small group, probably two dozen people and now the marching band is never less than four dozen," said Grauman. "We've been one of the first four or five units in the parade for 10 years now."

"I think our drum line right now is one of the best in the state," Grauman laughed, "and that's coming from a trombone player." RCB will be sending members to the Gay Games this summer in Cologne, Germany.

Rainbow City Band will resume its concert season in fall 2010. RCB was founded in 1998 and is a non-profit, non-audition community band consisting of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people and their allies in the Puget Sound Area. The band is a member of the Lesbian and Gay Bands Association
