Jet City Hoops auction raises over $6,000

by James Whitely - SGN Staff Writer

Jet City Hoops Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction
March 11
Lobby Bar

On March 11, Jet City Hoops hosted their first Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction, which featured sexy bachelors and bachelorettes from Jet City Hoops' Co-ed Recreational League and Competitive League. The whole affair packed the Lobby Bar to capacity and raised over $6,000 for Jet City Hoops.

The towering GLAMAZONIA lent her talents as hostess for the night. GLAMAZONIA, her provocative style matched with her immense height, proved that no hostess could have done it better.

Patrons bid on dinner dates with the male and female athletes of Jet City Hoops. Each winner was provided with as $50 gift certificate by the event's restaurant sponsors, which included Tango Restaurant and Lounge, Gallerias, Meza Latin Fare, Quinn's, Anthony's, Table 219, The Rosebud Restaurant & Bar, Martins Off Madison, Geraldine's Counter, Tutta Bella and Kurrent.

About half of the athletes auctioned off will be going to the Gay Games this summer in Cologne, Germany, according to Ernie Lou, who serves as secretary on Jet City Hoops' board of directors. The fundraiser served as a benefit for both the athletes going to the Gay Games and the league itself.

"This was the first time we've done this, and the first time a Gay sports team has really done this locally, so it was really hard to gauge what we expected," Lou told SGN. "I think raising $6,000 was kind of beyond our wildest dreams. & We're already thinking about doing another next year."

Jet City Hoops is Seattle's only Gay basketball league. Jet City Hoops currently has two leagues, the Co-ed Recreational League and the Competitive League. The Co-ed Recreational League is open to players of all skill levels.

Jet City Hoops was formed in fall 2008. With 14 teams and approximately 100 active players, Jet City Hoops is the biggest Gay basketball league on the west coast.

"Our goal is to provide a fun environment for players who enjoy or want to learn more about basketball," said Lou.
