Anything But Clothes fundraiser a fashionable success
by James Whitely - SGN Contributing Writer

On December 28, over 100 people gathered at Café Metropolitain for the ABC (Anything But Clothes) Party, a birthday party for James Knapp and a benefit for the Lambert House. The party raised $360 for Lambert House and lasted well into the night, long after all the scheduled events were over. Master of ceremonies Lady Chablis led patrons in a round of 'Happy Birthday to You' for Knapp, who decided to turn his birthday into a fundraiser.

Quyen Luu, the owner of Café Metropolitain and vice president of the Board of Directors for Lambert House, offered the VIP room to Knapp for his birthday.

'I was & honored by the proposal, but not having enough immediate friends to have a party, I immediately thought of doing a benefit for a homo-health organization for my birthday instead,' Knapp told SGN. 'When [Luu] heard of my plan, he gave me the whole place to do my party.'

Knapp, who is new to Seattle, asked Luu which local charity his party should fundraise for - The Lambert House seemed a given. "The strength of support networks I had in the past changed the direction of my life and I could have been one of those kids for financial reasons," Knapp told SGN.

Lady Chablis led the costume contest. From diving gear to Christmas trees and even high-end shopping bags, all the costumes were original at least, and sexy at best. The contest, raffle and silent auction all featured prizes donated by local business like Babeland, Seattle Gay News, and Purr.

ABC was a success in every regard. At its core, it was really all the patrons that made it such a great gathering. However, the giant penis piñata, appearances by local drag stars like Aleksa Manila, and tons of photo ops (thanks to Kevin Kauer of NARK magazine and SGN) made it even more complete.

Café Metropolitain, as always, served as an incredible community space, and owner Luu, as always, held an awesome fundraiser. "I feel it was a great success and couldn't have done it without the wonderful support of this great community," said Knapp.
