posted Friday, October 2, 2009 - Volume 37 Issue 40 THANKS FROM SEATTLE SHANTI Thanks very much for giving us such great space to acquaint the community with our volunteer needs. Robert Lux GAY BARS For many years, Gay bars, otherwise known as watering holes, were very popular for meeting new people, extended conversations, and, hopefully, connections. People still socialize at bars, but the atmosphere is somewhat different now. There are patrons who stay with their friends, watch intently, and some Gay men who very seldom talk to anybody. The past cordiality appears to be very understated now, with so many people who prefer to watch instead of participating in social amenities. I havent met a new Gay man in several years, whereas before it meant several conversations and phone numbers. A friend described Gay bars as mortuaries for the living. Buzz Flowers Callaway |
