Celebrating Ed Ruby's life

A celebration of Ed's life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 from 3-5 p.m. at Martins Off Madison, 1413 14th Avenue.

After 60 great years of life, Ed Ruby passed away August 1, 2009 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle Washington. Born in Alameda, CA on September 2, 1948, Edmond E. Ruby was the son of Edgar Edmond Ruby and Rosalie Barbara Slavik.

Ed was a 1968 graduate of Queen Anne High School, where he was a swim instructor for the handicapped and went on to receive an A.A. degree in occupational therapy from Green River Community College. Ed worked for the Lighthouse for the Blind, First Hill Villa Care, the Northwest Progressive Care Center and other local nursing homes for the elderly until his deteriorating eyesight prevented him from continuing to serve the public.

He loved a good prank and a great joke. He supported good causes whenever called upon. He was co-founder of the Mouseketeer Club, a club officially sanctioned by Disney Productions which worked in Seattle's Gay community. He was Baron 1 of Tacoma when the Barony was first created. He was a great masseur and loyal friend.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Wyness Berry, and also by his beloved partner Mac "Chico" Meads in 1993.

He is survived by his sister Kathryn (Bob) Currie and family in Trinity Texas, his adopted brother Jim (Jo-Ann) Larson and family in Calgary Alberta, Canada, his mentor and friend of 40 years, Jim Feigley, former owner of the Crescent Lounge, and his many, many friends in Seattle who were his family.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for him in his last week of life along with his dear friends Derek Lloyd and Roy Sizemore, who watched out for Ed and made sure his needs were taken care of during these last few months.
