GLSEN fundraiser to benefit Washington GSAs
by Shaun Knittel - SGN Staff Writer

School's Out
For Summer fundraiser
July 18, 7-9 PM
C.C. Attle's

The Second Annual Washington State Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) 'School's Out For Summer' fundraiser is scheduled at C.C. Attle's Bar and Restaurant July 18 from 7-9 p.m.

The GLSEN Washington State chapter is based in Seattle, with a support staff covering the entire state. GLSEN is an education organization dedicated to creating safe schools for all LGBT people. They envision a future in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

The "School's Out For Summer" fundraiser will consist of a raffle, where the money from ticket purchases and Jell-O shot purchases goes to support the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) networks in Washington State. As of July 19, 2006, the organization manages the state's GSA networks, which are youth-led organizations created to help connect public and private GSA-based clubs and other community groups throughout Washington State. Fundraiser organizers note that this is a 21 and older fundraising event.

Bill Keating, GLSEN Washington State board member, said the money going to the different GSAs across the state would help the organizations work to end harassment and bullying incidents of LGBT youth in Washington State.
