The Seattle Out and Proud (SOAP) Pride
Idol final event is June 23 at 9:30 p.m. at R
Place. The winner of the singing competition
will perform on the SOAP float at the
Gay Pride Parade June 28. The lucky crooner
will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize.
For five weeks, local talent signed up to
sing a song of their choice every Tuesday
night at R Place.
The competition quickly
gained popularity; I was at the wildcard
round June 16, and it was standing-roomonly.
I was absolutely blown away by the
eight karaoke competitors, who had to sing
two songs for the wildcard round instead of
the usual one-song routine. The entertainment
ranged from country and western to
rock 'n' roll and anything you could think
of in between. Just like the TV show, American
Idol, the contestants are critiqued by a
panel of judges' some naughty, some nice,
and the audience texts their vote to Verizon
Wireless so their favorite contestant can
win.
For the final show, SOAP organizers are
bringing in a special guest judge and the
winners from all the previous competitions.
The night is sure to be packed with entertainment,
so be sure to get there early if you
want a seat. Fans of Seattle Pride Idol didn't
need Adam Lambert to come out, because at
R Place, everyone's Gay!
