Dharma Buddies is a peer-led meditation and discussion group for Gay, Bi, and Transgendered men that meets every Sunday at 11 a.m. at Cal Anderson House at 400 Broadway in Seattle. The group sits in silent meditation for 45 minutes and returns after a quiet break for a group shared discussion led by the day's facilitator on some spiritual aspect that impacts our lives. All are welcome, from beginning meditators to more experienced meditators, and even the merely curious.
On April 3-8, Dharma Buddies will sponsor a five-day silent meditation retreat at Camp Shale on the Kitsap Peninsula on 65 wooded acres with a stream running through it. Larry Yang, a meditation teacher from Spirit Rock in Marin County CA, will be leading the retreat for the third year. This is an opportunity for Queer identified men to be together as spiritual family. It is suitable for beginning and experienced meditators alike. You will be invited to practice with the Buddha's instructions on freedom, mindfulness, and loving kindness. Each day contains silent sitting, walking, movement, and eating meditations, questions and answer sessions, and a Dharma talk. There will also be an opportunity to meet with the teacher in small group discussion.
The retreat is limited to 20 men, but there are still slots available for the five days. The registration fee varies from $380 to $475 and includes all meals and lodging for the five days. Dana for the teacher is extra. For more information e-mail Dharma@wamail.net or call James at 253-306-9880. The group has a website at www.dharmabuddies.org. You can go to Larry Yang's website - larryyang.org - to get a feeling for his teachings.
If you have more questions about the group, you can call Forrest at 206-920-6117. Cal Anderson House is on Broadway between Jefferson and Boren.
