Seattle Out and Proud seeks artists
|Seattle Out and Proud seeks artists|
Seattle Out and Proud, producer of the annual Seattle Pride Parade, is looking for a few good artists to submit pieces for inclusion as Seattle Pride 2009 official artists.
This year's parade theme is Peace, Love and Equality.
We are looking for art that speaks to the arc of the historic struggle for equality, past and present, with a hopeful vision of a future where LGBT persons and families live in harmony, fairness and inclusion with the rest of society.
From submissions received we will select a limited number of official 2009 artists in the following categories: painting, sculpture, music, dance, film, video, short stories, and poetry.
Selected artists will be considered for the Seattle Out and Proud website, Facebook site, official Pride Guide, and ancillary Pride product opportunities such as special edition posters and T-shirts.
The Seattle Pride Parade is one of the most popular events in the city and this year's event is especially meaningful as we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the NY Stonewall uprising.
The release of Milk, the groundbreaking film about civil rights pioneer Harvey Milk, plus the passage of Proposition 8 in California, combine to make this year's Pride a high-visibility event that will undoubtedly receive a great amount of local and national press. Add to that anywhere from 200-400,000 expected merrymakers along the parade route and Pride 2009 will be a can't-miss event.
The Seattle Pride website receives around 300,000 user hits per month and over 350,000 unique visitors annually. We expect our Facebook page also to have a large and active readership as it will be a main source of information to Seattle 's estimated 60,000 LGBT population for this year's upcoming events leading up to Pride.
Please submit samples of your work in electronic format along with artist statement and bio to firstname.lastname@example.org.
