Springtime hiking with Seattle Gay Hiking Group
Springtime hiking with Seattle Gay Hiking Group
Tired of hanging around your house or apartment or your condo on the weekend? Tired of the cool, wet spring that 2008 is giving us? Can't seem to get to the gym to exercise? Want to get out and about with other Gay guys, see and experience a few of the natural wonders of Western Washington and occasionally the high desert of Eastern Washington? Look no more as the Seattle Gay Hiking Group may be your ticket to adventure, inspiration and fun!

With 40 years of hiking experience under our feet, you cannot go wrong or get lost! The Seattle Gay Hiking Group has been "Out on the Trails" of Washington since 1968. Whether it is a beach hike on Whidbey Island or hiking to the top of Bare Mountain, you will pass through and experience the natural beauty of WA State and, as a bonus, hang with some fun Gay guys outside the bar scene.

We are not hiking fanatics - just ordinary Gay guys out and about for a day hike and some camaraderie. It may not be the destination that makes the hike memorable and worthwhile, but the journey and company along the way certainly will. While we do hike to many peaks in Western WA - Tiger Mtn., Kendall Katwalk, Panorama Point, Shriner Peak, Park Butte Lookout, Gothic Basin, Mt. Defiance, Three Fingers and Mt. Pilchuck to name only a few, we also hike lowland trails - Ebey's Landing, Deception Pass, Washington Park, Chehalis Western, Pt. Defiance, Ft. Worden, Snoqualmie Valley/Rattlesnake, Monte Cristo Railway, Chuckanuts and even a place called Adnar! On occasion, we travel through Snoqualmie Pass and adventure to the high desert of Eastern Washington, hiking to destinations such as Esmeralda Basin, Longs Pass, Black Canyon, Book Mt., Volcanic Peak, Domerie Peak, Ingalls Lake, Iron Mtn, Paddy Go Easy Pass, Mt. Baldy Bald and along the majestic basalt cliffs of Yakima River Canyon.

If the warm days of Summer 2008 ever arrive, we will frequently hike to alpine lakes - Katrina, Hancock, Wallace, Alaska, to name a few - for a swim, clothing usually optional. Not into swimming, but still want to hike? Bring a book to read while you work on your tan, soak up some vitamin D and relax on the shore of a pristine lake in the Cascade Mountains.

You say you are out of shape - perhaps haven't hiked for years, or maybe never. No problem - we welcome hikers of any experience - first- and second-timers always welcome. You hike at your own pace, no peer pressure to complete the trail and no snickering if you do not. You hike for as little or as long as you want to.

Now that you are ready to go and experience a hike in the Pacific Northwest, here are the specifics:

Meet in the Uptown Espresso, on the NE corner of Republican and Westlake, leaving at 9:00 a.m. every Sunday - year 'round, rain or shine. For additional information or to view photos of past hikes, visit our website at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheSeattleGayHikingGroup/.

We're more than a hike, we're an adventure!
