WORK IT!
MAY 15 - 5:30-7:30 PM
CAFÉ METROPOLITAIN
1701 EAST OLIVE WAY

State Senator Ed Murray is leading a networking event co-presented by GSBA and the Pride Foundation planned for May 15. The event, titled "Work It!," is designed to obtain input from prospective LGBT community leaders, as well as to make personal and professional connections among activists and leaders of all ages and perspectives.

The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Café Metropolitain, 1701 E. Olive Way, with light refreshments and door prizes to stimulate conversation.

With Murray's support, a group of intergenerational community leaders called "Out In Front" is planning the event as part of a drive to develop a leadership program expressly for the LGBT community.

Out In Front includes a Steering Committee that has conducted preliminary research for such a project over the post three years - plus a new cadre of younger community leaders with similar goals and values. The original Steering Committee includes Michael Auch, Marsha Botzer, Lonnie Lusardo, and Jeff Sakuma. In addition to Sen. Murray, the reenergized planning group now includes David Beard, Michael Gilmore, Livia Lam, Anna Markee, and Uriel Ybarra.

Out In Front hopes the event captures a sense of the community's needs and desires for a leadership program in order to provide skills and techniques for future board members, executives, staff, and volunteers who can guide and support local and regional LGBT organizations to success.

As currently planned, the mission of Out In Front is "to foster the development of creative, engaged and passionate leaders for the community in order to meet our vision." The group's vision is "A thriving Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community, having achieved total equality and the development of social infrastructures to support, nurture and protect its diverse members."
