Emerald City Shines for ECSA play
Emerald City Shines for ECSA play
by Nick Bowen - Special to the SGN

The sun finally rode high over a great weekend of play for the Emerald City Softball Association. This weekend saw some close games and great action in all four divisions. A month into the season there are some clear frontrunners, as all teams are slugging it out for a shot at a World Series berth for the Northwest Quest Gay World Series right here in Seattle this August.

The open C division Bulldogs rolled to two easy victories against the Otters and the Sin, to go to seven wins and only two losses, and sole possession of first place in a very tough division. Hot on their heels the Alley Cats and the Animals, both with identical five-win, two-loss records, sit in second place. All three teams went unbeaten on the day, and look to be the early favorites to win the division.

The open B division is showing its strength, as both the Shock and the Pilots knocked off the A division Knights. The Pilots used some timely hitting and kept the Knights away from the big rally with some great catches in the outfield. The Shock had a stingy defense as well, and allowed the Knights only eight runs, as they used some timely hitting to pile up 11 runs and win by three. This leaves the Pilots alone atop the division at four wins and only one loss.

The open D division saw some close games as well. The Buzz and Pirates played a close game and the Buzz held on to win 15-13. The Buzz then played the Drillers who showed why they are one of the top teams in the division. The Drillers' offense was strong as they finished off the Buzz by a final of 16-7, and taking both games on the day to run their record to eight wins and one loss overall. The Wolves also won both their games on the day to move up in the standings. The Idle Rockets and Saints stay on top of the division with identical 7-0 records.
