NORTHWEST NEWS 13TH ANNUAL SEATTLE JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL RUNS APRIL 3-13

Of particular interest to the LGBT community, will be the world premiere showing of Mom, I Didn't Kill Your Daughter on Sunday, April 13, at 7:00 p.m. Lior and Yuval are an Israeli couple. Both were born women, but throughout their lives felt their true gender identity to be male and that their female bodies were alien to them. Now they are struggling to change what is thought unchangeable.

Yuval, who has taken hormones regularly for seven years and undergone surgery, is fighting to have his identification documents say "male." Lior has commenced the process, and his mother has to embrace a new son instead of the daughter she raised for 22 years. A moving tale of transformation both physical and emotional. UW PRESENTS SYMPOSIUM ON AMERICAN MUSICAL THEATER
The University of Washington School of Music presents a FREE symposium on American Musical Theater on Friday, April 11, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 12, 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon, in the School of Music's Brechemin Auditorium. The symposium will provide a forum for nationally celebrated scholars and theater professionals - both local residents and out-of-towners - to share their work with the University of Washington community and with members of the general public interested in the American musical.

MUSIC OF REMEMBRANCE PRESENTS "TIMELESS" AT SEATTLE ASIAN ART MUSEUM
On Saturday, April 12, 2:30 p.m., Music of Remembrance presents a FREE program of timeless works from the Nazi concentration camp of Terezin, with scenes from Hans Krasa's beloved children's opera Brundibar at the centerpiece. Cast with children inmates, Brundibar has 55 performances in Terezin. these excerpts, featuring some of Seattle's top young vocalists and directed by Eric Parce, use the new English adaptation by Tony Kushner. A young cellist named Robert Dauber (1922-45) played in Brundibar's orchestra; this program includes one of his compositions and one by Czech composer Gideon Klein (just 23 years old when he came to Terezin).

"PHISH, FOLLY & FUN" AT NEIGHBOURS
On Saturday, April 12, 7 p.m. (door), 8 p.m. (show), at Neighbours Nightclub, 1509 Broadway (entrance in alley off E. Pike St. between Broadway and Harvard Ave.), Michael Dean, King of the Seas 32, and his title wife, DeDe Delicious, host "Phish, Folly & Fun," a drag extravaganza and fundraiser for the Imperial Court of Seattle. $5 donation at the door, with fundraising raffle, auction and show.

EMERALD CITY SOFTBALL LEAGUE KICKS OFF 2008 SOFTBALL SEASON
On Sunday, April 13, the Emerald City Softball League, kicks off their 2008 season with 420 plays on 30 teams in the Open Division this year and 250 plays on 19 teams in the Women's Division. Open Division games will be played primarily at the North SeaTac fields again this year, S. 128th St. & 20th Ave. S., while the Women's Division games will be played at the Lower Woodland Complex, Aurora Ave. N. & N. 59th St. For complete details about the league, including game times and field locations, see the league website at www.emeraldcitysoftball.org. QUEER TEEN ENSEMBLE THEATRE SEEKS LGBT TEENAGERS FOR SUMMER THEATRE PROJECT
Washington Ensemble Theatre (W.E.T.) will be offering full scholarships to LGBT teenagers and their friends to participate in this summer's Queer Teen Ensemble Theatre (QTET), a city-wide ensemble theatre project now in its second year. Led by W.E.T. collaborator, Jessica Hatlo, and W.E.T. associate ensemble member, Rhonda J. Soikowski, students will collaboratively write, rehearse and perform a play using their own stories and experiences surrounding identity. The curriculum includes workshops led by W.E.T. ensemble members and opportunities to be involved in all aspects of the production.

"MANY VOICES, ONE SONG" - MULTIFAITH'S MUSICAL CELEBRATION OF DIVERSITY
"Many Voices, One Song" is a musical celebration of spiritual and ethnic diversity benefitting Multifaith Works, an organization that provides compassion and support for people living in isolation and loneliness, including people living with HIV/AIDS. The concert will take place on Friday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Ave., at the corner of Harvard Ave. & Seneca St.

This year's line-up will feature The Esoterics and the a capella men's ensemble, AEDONIS. Also performing will be the Seattle Kokon Taiko drumming group, the Seattle Men's Chorus ensemble, Captain Smartypants, the six-member African-American women's ensemble, Sankofa and the Center for Spiritual Living's Choir of Light. "A NIGHT OF SONG FROM THE SOUL OF THE COUNTRY" ERIC HIMAN AND TOM GOSS AT THE CRESCENT
On Friday, April 18, at 10 p.m., The Crescent, 1413 E. Olive Way, will present the acoustic stylings of Eric Himan (Tulsa, OK) and Tom Goss (Washington, DC). The soulfulness that comes from Eric Himan's voice mixed with the percussive yet melodic sounds of his acoustic guitar will put you right at ease. His unique sound transcends genres as his songs reflect blues, folk, pop, blue grass, country, and rock. BENEFIT FOR NEW BEGINNINGS WOMEN'S SHELTER AT THE TRACTOR TAVERN IN BALLARD
On Sunday, April 20, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Dysfunction Junction Bluegrass Band on behalf of the Seattle Bluegrass Community, is proud to host the 2nd annual Tractor Tavern Old Fashioned Bluegrass Event, to raise money for New Beginnings. New Beginnings provides services to women and children whose lives have been affected by physical, emotional or sexual abuse. They offer many services including 24-hour emergency shelter, transitional housing, information and referrals, legal clinics, support groups, individual advocacy and community education. This event is modeled after the old-fashioned bluegrass "hoe-down," which is always centered around food and community.

There will be open picking and socializing from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., a potluck dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and live music from several of the area's finest bluegrass bands. This event has something for everybody. if you like great food, there will be LOTS of it! If you like great music, there will be LOTS of it, and if you like supporting a worthy cause, that is what the real driving force behind "community" is all about. A suggested donation of $10 as well as a dish to share with others is asked, but nobody will be turned away ... just give what you can.

PLANNING CONTINUES FOR FUTURE FUNDING OF HIV/AIDS CARE SERVICES
Nearly $5.5 million will be available for HIV/AIDS care services in King County in 2009 and 2010. The Seattle HIV/AIDS Planning Council has begun the process of deciding what types of services will be funded with the Ryan White Treatment Modernization Act, Part A funds.

A committee of the Planning Council comprised of consumers and service providers will use data from a variety of sources, including an assessment of need which surveyed over 500 consumers and 100 providers, to determine funding levels of services. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meetings and join in the discussions. Meetings will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on seven Mondays. Meetings scheduled for March 17, 24, 31, April 7, and May 5, will be held at 2100 24th Ave. S. Meetings schedule for April 21 and 28, will be held at 401 5th Ave, Room 121.

After the approval of the funding plan by the full Planning Council, interested parties will have 30 days to provide comments. The Seattle HIV/AIDS Planning Council is the local decision-making body that determines how federal funds will be awarded for HIV/AIDS care service delivery in King County. VERBENA HEALTH MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHY SCREENING EVENT
On Monday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Verbena Health and YWCA Women's Health Outreach program will be conducting a mobile mammography screening at the Center for Sex Positive Culture (formerly known as The Wet Spot), 1602 15th Ave. W. ANNUAL DINING OUT FOR LIFE EVENTS IN SEATTLE AND PIERCE COUNTY
On Thursday, April 24, Lifelong AIDS Alliance and Pierce County AIDS Foundation, present their annual Dining Out for Life fundraising events. Dine at one of 150 participating restaurants in Seattle on this day and 30% of your meal cost will be donated back to the Lifelong AIDS Alliance to help fight against HIV and AIDS in the Puget Sound region. In Pierce County, dine at one of 64 participating restaurants on this day and 25% of your food and non-alcoholic beverage bill will be donated to the Pierce County AIDS Foundation to support their work which offers a full spectrum of HIV prevention and care service programs. CAMP TEN TREES PRESENTS "LETTERS HOME," THEIR 7TH ANNUAL DINNER & AUCTION
On Friday, April 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Camp Ten Trees presents their 7th annual dinner and auction at the South Lake Union Naval Reserve Building, 860 Terry Ave. N., to raise funds for their project. Individual tickets are $55 or fill a table of eight with you and your friends for $400. Camp Ten Trees is an overnight summer camp located in Washington State that creates a fun and engaging youth camp environment for LGBTQ communities and their allies, specifically LGBTQ and allied youth and youth from LGBTQ families. Last year's event raised a record $60,000 and helped send over 200 youth to Camp Ten Trees. This year's goal is to raise $75,000. COMMUNITIES AGAINST RAPE AND ABUSE (CARA) "WINE & ROSES" SILENT AUCTION

"CAPITOL HILL RESPONDS TO VIOLENCE" COMMUNITY SAFETY & SELF-DEFENSE FAIR
On Sunday, April 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Seattle Commission for Sexual Minorities and the Seattle Police Department present a series of workshops and information on personal safety. Workshops will be organized by Home Alive, NW Network, Seattle Police Department and the King County Prosecutor's Office. GAY CITY SEEKING LGBT ARTISTS, WRITERS AND CRAFTS PEOPLE
