The Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence
host "A Mad Tea Party" fundraiser
by Maggie Bloodstone -
SGN Contributing Writer
It certainly looks like a scene out of Alice In Wonderland, but something's not quite & right, somehow: The garden of talking flowers, the White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the Caterpillar, et.al., look oddly like a certain group of nuns you may have seen roaming Capitol Hill on a regular basis, dispensing joy and condoms to everyone they meet. Not just that, but the regal lady at the head of a long, festively cluttered table is a real dreamboat, besides looking verrrry familiar, especially to anyone who cares at all about rock 'n' roll&
The Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence, Abbey Of St. Joan proudly present the very first Hat And Glove Society Tea, May 11, 2008. Abbey Sisters and their Saints, Vic Janusz The Piano Man, Lili Armani, Tony Buff, Peggy Platt, Pure Cirkus, The Yellow Hat Band, and many other guest performers and hosts will preside over an afternoon of fun, games, gallons of tea and oodles of delectables at the D.A.R. Rainier Chapter House, 800 E. Roy St., Seattle, commencing at 2:30 p.m. on the dot.
It's not just for a lark, though - if the Sisters are involved, you know it's for a good cause, and the good cause in question here is Camp Ten Trees, a Summer Camp for LGBTQ youth designed to help build communities and individual self-esteem (and maybe make s'mores while they're at it). Contributions will come from admission, a live auction of desserts and other goodies, a hat auction (with the Mad Hatter's Hat Fashion show), and sponsorships. You can be an Ace Of Hearts for $1200 or more (which will include, in addition to the benefits, Prince & Princess Of Hearts seats in Her Majesty's Royal Court), a King Of Hearts for $500-$999, or a Knave Of Hearts for $250-$449. To host a table of 6-8 revelers is $50 per person, and a seat at the Queen's table is $75 (but you'll have to be quick like a white rabbit, as these will go snicker-snack). There are also opportunities for local businesses to become donors - in exchange, their logo will appear on promotional material, website exposure, and product placement. Many local businesses have already generously donated auction items and goodies for the guests, and they will be thanked profusely in the event program and everyplace else the Sisters can think of.
The Sisters hope this will become an annual Mother's Day tradition where Seattleites will have a rare opportunity to dress to the nines in lace and silk (NO flip-flops, we beg of you), and enjoy a truly unique afternoon of tea and Sisterly Love - but space is definitely limited, so contact www.brownpaperticket.com, or Sister Babylon Anon at sisterbabylon@comcast.net ASAP.
