Steve Salget: 1957-2008
Steve Salget: 1957-2008
Steve Salget passed away unexpectedly January 11, 2008 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A celebration of life will be held at the Monte Cristo Ballroom at 1507 Wall St. in Everett, Wa. on March 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. A show of his paintings "Discovering the Magic" will be on display at the Everett Arts Council Gallery Thursday March 6 through Saturday March 8 at the Historic Monte Cristo Building.

Born in Everett, Wa. on July 20, 1957, Steve was the youngest of four children of Maryalice and Bob/George Salget. Steve's great grandfather was C.A. Blackman, a member of one of Everett's founding families.

Educated in Everett schools, Steve was involved in a variety of student activities, including band and art. He graduated from Cascade High School in 1976 and attended Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle Central Community College and Boise State University. He recently graduated from Healing Mountain Massage School in Salt Lake City where he enjoyed working as a Licensed Massage Therapist in their clinic.

Steve had many talents. He was a talented musician and a gifted artist. As a young person, he played the piano, flute and most of the reed instruments. He worked as a piano accompanist at Cornish College and with the Pacific NW Ballet. As an artist in residence, he taught art to children in schools throughout Washington, Louisiana, and Idaho. He worked as a designer and builder of custom furniture and designed props and fixtures for displays at Nordstrom's, the Bon Marche, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Macy's throughout the western states.

Steve was enchanted by the hills and canyons of the west, where he drew inspiration for much of his art. He developed a style of painting impressionistic landscapes on large sheets of paper attached to a platform he built on the back of his pickup truck. His method was immediate. His art has been shown in Utah, Idaho, Washington, Louisiana, Arizona, and New Mexico. One of his paintings was purchased by the City of Everett and another was purchased by the Historic Everett Theater.

Steve had a passion for travel and - with his knack for languages - made friends all over the world. He lived in New Orleans, Montreal, Paris, New York, Santa Fe, Vancouver, B.C. and other cities, then settled in Salt Lake City in 2001 to be with his partner Lars.

He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his beloved partner Lars Hansen; his mother Maryalice Salget; sisters Sally and Sylvia Salget (Diana Gard), Bev Sagen (Caroline Johnston); brother-in-law Kit Scruggs; nieces Jessica, Meredith and Kyrany; nephew Nicholas; Lars' children and grandchildren and extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his dad, George Robert, and his sister, Sue.

You may learn more about Steve's work as an artist and view his paintings on his website at www.stevesalget.com. In lieu of flowers, please hug the ones you love.
