V-Day 2008 and the National Council of Jewish Women bring The Vagina Monologues to Seattle
V-Day 2008 and the National Council of Jewish Women bring The Vagina Monologues to Seattle
THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES
FEBRUARY 24, 4:00 AND 7:00 PM
MUSEUM OF HISTORY & INDUSTRY
2700 24TH AVE E.
$36 - $150

Last year more than 1150 communities hosted V-Day benefits around the world raising funds and awareness towards ending violence against women. These highly successful events raised over $6 million through performances of Eve Ensler's award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues. The Seattle Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) has joined this global movement as part of the V-Day 2008 - the 10th Anniversary of V-Day!

NCJW will stage two benefit and fundraising performances of The Vagina Monologues on February 24, 2008 at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Museum of History & Industry's McEachern Auditorium. The production will feature women from the NCJW community and beyond, with a special appearance by local comedian and actress Peggy Platt. Between the performances there will be an Afterglow/Foreplay Reception featuring women-owned catering businesses. For NCJW an important aspect of our V-Day program is to feature and support women in our community striving to make a difference in their lives and in the world.

NCJW has been at the forefront of social changes since 1893 nationally and 1900 locally. Inspired by Jewish values, particularly the value of tikkun olam - repairing the world - NCJW takes a courageous stance on progressive issues such as child welfare, women's rights, reproductive justice, and civil liberties. Through a multi-pronged approach of legislative advocacy, community service, and education, NCJW strives to improve the lives of women, children and families. Currently NCJW runs the only furniture bank exclusively for survivors of domestic violence in Washington, and is one of only three such specialized programs throughout the country.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. It is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. Through V-Day, Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler makes the script of her award-winning play The Vagina Monologues available for organizations and schools to produce as fundraisers for local domestic violence programs. Hailed by The New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," The Vagina Monologues, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage, and excitement buried in women's experiences.
