Unspoken History of the African-American Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Community
Unspoken History of the African-American Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Community
Seattle, WA - The Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas (CD Forum) in conjuction with Seattle Black Pride presents American Heritage Series: Unspoken History of the African-American Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Community on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 7 PM at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, 104 17th Ave. S, Seattle, WA 98144.

Heritage Series is an ongoing series of lectures and discussions that offer new perspectives on the role of African-Americans in American History. The first event in the series will explore the unspoken history of the African-American LGBTQ community. In many cases this history has been either deliberately left out or misinterpreted. Acknowledging the depth and breadth of LGBTQ African-Americans in our history completes us. From culture to politics, their role has been significant.

Join moderator Chandan Reddy, Associate Professor, UW Department of English; panelist Kiantha Duncan-Woods, President of Seattle Black Pride; and others to be announced as we discuss this hidden and unspoken history locally and nationally.

The CD Forum in 2007-2008 dedicates the American Heritage Series to the African-American LGBTQ history. While this first event in December 2007 will focus on the unspoken history of the African-American LGBTQ community, the second installment in April 2008 will deal specifically with the African-American transgender community.
